Structures

My yarden is full of structures. We’ve lived here for more than 10 years. There have been many garden boxes, planters, potting benches, trellises and everything else you can make from scrap wood to old furniture. As things evolve in your yard and nature takes over or pushes you in a different direction (know better, do better, right?), it’s important to reuse as much as you can.

I have built trellises from so many discarded things. Some of my favorites are pruned branches from bendy trees, old animal wire fencing and bamboo scavenged from other fallen apart yard structures.

This picture is of my most recent structure, by far the most ambitious build to date. The decision to build it was only possible after deciding we’re done moving (ever) and will be here (forever). It was a massive undertaking, costly, a grand experiment, and totally worth it in the end.

Things that I reused in this arrangement were the old garden boxes from my previous garden, now used for smaller plantings outside of this fenced space, planting pots made from old rain barrels, and larger garden boxes from the old garden repurposed as mini green houses. It’s amazing what you can find new uses for when you stop thinking of things as disposable.
